Choir is typically September- mid June
Rehearsal is currently Wednesday nights, but there is some flexibility
Hours: 6-8 hours a week, but more responsibilities can be discussed
Salary: $14,000+ depending on experience
Job Overview:
The Director of Music supports all facets of music at Sand Point Community United Methodist Church—especially coordinating scheduling of musicians for Sunday worship, special services, and recitals. This role is a part time salaried position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct the chancel choir during the choir season—including weekly rehearsals and a shorter preservice rehearsal (fall-spring)
Select anthems or schedule special music for weekly services during the choral season while reporting to appropriate licensing organizations. Schedule instrumentalists for services and rehearsals in coordination with the staff keyboardists, and hire substitute/additional musicians when necessary. Maintain a sustainable organizational system with the choral librarian. Review submissions for the SPCUMC recital series, and communicate scheduling information to the office manager. Support nonmusical events, and promote music at the church.
Skills and qualifications:
Excellent musician, conductor, and rehearsalist
Ability to work healthily with changing voices—both elderly and adolescent. Can create a supportive environment for singers of various musical and vocal abilities. Degree in music or equivalent professional experience. Commitment to musical growth of the choir and church at large in both quantity and quality
Preferred qualifications:
Graduate degree in choral conducting or related field
Experience directing church choirs and familiarity with Methodist hymnody
